                <para>We tabulate velocities and other parameters of hydrogen recombination lines near 5 GHz (H109alpha and H110alpha) for 316 HII regions observed with the Parkes 64-m radio telescope. Results of a new search for formaldehyde absorption are also listed. Source selection was based on the 5 GHz continuum southern galactic plane survey of Haynes et al. (1978, 1979). Data is given for most H II regions in the galactic longitude range 210 to 360 degrees that show 5 GHz continuum brightness temperature exceeding 1 K (as observed with the 4 arcminute beam of the Parkes 64-m telescope), together with a selection of sources that are weaker or outside of this longitude range. Tabulated data include source coordinates, peak brightness, flux density, and angular size from the 5 GHz continuum survey; radial velocities of detected formaldehyde absorption lines; recombination line peak brightness, radial velocity, and line width; derived electron temperature assuming LTE; derived kinematic distance from the Sun and galactocentric radius; and presence or absence of a visible optical counterpart. In cases where kinematic distance is ambiguous, both near and far distances are tabulated; a flag is given if there is a strong preference for near or far distance based on information such as H I or H2CO absorption measurements or visibility of an optical counterpart. Many of these radio HII regions lie beyond the range of optical detection, at distances exceeding several kpc; they thus provide a comprehensive coverage of the southern HII regions in the Galaxy over the longitude range 210 to 360 degrees and constitute a vital data base for the study of galactic structure.</para>

                <para>Distances for 145 Hyades members in an extended region of the Hyades cluster were derived on the basis of new, highly accurate proper motions obtained from work on the catalogues FK5 and PPM. The cluster membership on the stars has been discussed and a few new candidates are proposed. From a selected subset of our sample we have obtained the convergence point &#123;alpha&#125;=6h30.7m+/-1.7m=97deg41'+/-25', &#123;delta&#125;=5deg59'+/-11'. Combining this point with the mean cluster radial velocity of 39.1km/s by Detweiler et al. (1984AJ.....89.1038D) one find the galactic space velocity (U, V, W)=(-42.02, -20.12, -1.04)km/s. The galactic coordinates of the centre of our sample are (X, Y, Z)=(-44.3, +0.5, -18.2)pc. The distance of this centre from the Sun is 47.9+/-0.8pc corresponding to a modulus m-M=3.40+/-0.04mag. Individual distance moduli, coordinates and velocity residuals per star are given. The Hyades main sequence has been constructed in the range B-V&lt;1.2mag and it is presented analytically as well as by tabular values. The dispersion &#123;sigma&#125;(M_v_)=0.14mag of the absolute magnitudes about the main sequence indicates its high internal accuracy.</para>

                <para>Optical spectra have been obtained for a selection of objects included in a catalog of far ultraviolet bright, high galactic latitude objects detected with a balloon-borne survey telescope. The observed objects provide a sample of subdwarf O and B stars, white dwarfs, and binary systems including a hot sub-luminous member. Model atmospheres analysis of the sub-dwarf sample is used to determine the temperature, gravity, and helium to hydrogen ratio of the individual objects. A smooth distribution of objects is found on the gravity versus temperature diagram near the theoretical location of the extended horizontal branch. A break between the helium rich and helium poor objects occurs at 40000K. Suspected binary objects were found and analyzed to determine the temperature and gravity of the hot subluminous member in each system. The number of subdwarf stars contained in binaries is determined to be from 65% to 100%. The number versus ultraviolet magnitude distribution of the subdwarf B sample is modeled to obtain a midplane density of 3.3x10^-6^pc^-3^ and a population scale height of 240pc. The proportion of white dwarfs that experience the subdwarf phase of evolution is found to be 0.94%.</para>
